Lionel Messi has opened up with an Argentinean newspaper, in which he talks about the great team the Barcelona has built, his appreciation towards Diego Maradona and the Copa America final. With high hopes, Messi trusts in the new formation of Barca, "We are full of desire to win the League championship that so narrowly escaped us last season."And now we've signed Gaby Milito! I always regarded him as a winner, and an impressive defender."A great equipment has been built, no?" The forwarder also talks about how he appreciate Maradona’s continues support. ”Diego clearly likes me, and always speaks well of me."I want to do well by him now, as he always gives me his unconditional endorsement." Reflecting on the 3-0 against Brazil, he comments, "The wound of Brazil is never going to heal."We were doing well, and were so close to winning that title, we felt superior, but then we lost it all”.



Messi waits for another final - 2007-07-20

Argentina lost 3-0 against Brazil in the Copa America for the second straight time. The first goal was scored by Julio Baptista in the 4th minute.  Argentinean defender Roberto Ayala scored an own-goal just before half-time and Dani Alves did the third goal in his debut on the tournament.  This was the second time Argentina and Brazil meet in the final (Peru 2004).  Lionel Messi said about the result, "Losing like this makes you angry, but there's nothing more we can do but wait for another final."



Messi does magic and Argentina gets the final - 2007-07-12

Argentina defeated Mexico 3-0 during the semifinals of the “Copa America”. Lionel Messi scored a remarkable goal, after chipping the ball directly into Oswaldo Sanchez’ net. It was the second goal of the game. The other two were scored by defender Gabriel Heinze and midfielder Juan Roman Riquelme (Penalty).  Argentine coach Alfio Basile was thrilled after Messi’s goal.  "Only a genius could do this." "It was something only the superstars do - an extraordinary feat that moved everybody," Basile said. Argentina will meet Brazil next Sunday, for the finals of this cup, trying to take revenge after losing against the Brazilian team in the finals of the previous edition of the “Copa America” in 2004.
